We don’t understand how this place has such a high rating.

The apartment doesn’t match the listing - no parking (we were specifically searching for a property with a parking and ended up paying 20.75 euros per day), it’s dirty (including sticky table), dirty dishes, there’s mold in the shower, bathroom doors don’t lock, no blankets (only sheets), no terrace or outdoor furniture as described.

We left after just one night because it was impossible to stay in such conditions. The host refused a refund despite our early departure.

Avoid if you don’t want your trip ruined!

The apartment was more than perfect, located in an idyllic and paradisiacal setting right in front of the lake. The view is just incredible, and the owner was extremely helpful whenever we needed him.

The kitchen had all the amenities you could ever need during your stay. Since we were a group of five, having two toilets was more than welcome.

When we arrived, we were very tired from our travels, so we really appreciated the welcome basket.
Cherry on the cake: Varenna Esimo was only a 4-minute ride from the house.
The house also has a "secret" viewpoint overlooking Lake Como.

One of the most disappointing stays I’ve had, with a highly misleading listing.

Cleanliness was unacceptable: black mold in the shower, thin covers full of hair instead of proper blankets, a dusty and dirty bathroom, and cups that were either unwashed or badly stained (with heavy coffee/tea marks).

No advertised terrace, only one room with a lake view, and the rest of the apartment feels dark, old, and neglected. Doors don’t close, so there’s no privacy. The dining table was sticky, the portable AC didn’t work until we fixed it, and hot water ran cold until we discovered a bizarre switch next to the fridge that turns it off when the fridge door hits the wall.

Overall, the property feels run-down, dirty, and carelessly managed. The inaccurate listing and lack of basic cleanliness make it unacceptable for paying guests. I would strongly advise booking elsewhere to avoid ruining your trip.

Avoid this property if traveling by car.
This property misleadingly lists "Free Parking" on major booking platforms, appearing in searches for dedicated parking spots. In reality, it's neither free (~20 EUR/day) nor reserved - it's just public city parking 550m away.
Varenna's parking is notoriously scarce; I circled the area and nearby villages three times midday to find a spot.
Due to this inaccurate listing, I skipped better properties that honestly noted no parking, assuming this offered a reliable option.
By the host's logic, every property could claim "parking" since public spots exist nearby. Additionally, the property's photos don't fully represent reality - it appears much darker and more worn in person than depicted. This wasted time, added costs, and limited choices - book elsewhere if you need reliable parking.
