The staff don't know how to handle books they have in their inventory. They check books out that are damaged and then blame the next person who checks them out for the damage and then proceeds to bill the person for the book that was damaged before their check out. Why is it the patrons responsibility to tell the librarians of damage to books initially being checked out when it is their responsibility to know the damage to books ahead of time. I will not check out or request books from the Hoyt library ever again. I will only check books out from other libraries. Then to sit and talk about the patron of the library as if they are not there and can't hear what is being said. I found 3 other books that had obvious damage to them on their shelves one with obvious writing on the outer part of the pages where the book is closed, another page was stuck to another and if I would've checked those books out I probably would've been blamed for that too. Never again will they have my patronage.

Good selection of books and movies. Good staff. Has snacks and drinks available for purchase. Internet access with Wi-Fi for personal laptops and they have computers for use. They also seem to have a lot of events/activities for adults and kids. I gave it three stars for adult vs. kids space and noise level. There's double the space for kids so I guess essentially, that's the target audience. In the adult area there's one table with four chairs, two desk type seats with dividers, a high top with two chairs and two regular chairs like you would have in your home. The last time I was there some guy kept tapping on the table and humming. I went today and there was a guy chewing his gum and smacking his lips constantly. I put ear buds in with music and could still hear him. So, the library is nice but I cannot study there. There's limited space and too many distractions. One other thing, is pretty clean for a public space and is handicap accessible.

Usually my experience is pretty decent that why I gave 2 but this time the y’all old white bald guy I guess was to bored so he wanted to start with someone. I was listen to videos on my phone with ear headphones as I always do and he complains the computer is to loud (which I wasn’t even using) I turned my headphones down and went back to minding my business and he sat staring in my face looking slow. I guess intimidation was his plan however he failed ‼️

Ridiculous hours. The hours don't even make sense. 9-1 or is it 1-8 or maybe 9-5. Come on. The selection of books is ok. I have never been in a library with so many empty shelves. Rows and rows and rows and rows of empty shelves. It is such a nice building so it surprises me that there really isn't much of a library inside. Someone needs to get this library some books.

The hoyt still has the wifi turned off for covid reasons, but other libraries in the area do not. It's extremely inconvenient. If you are trying to discourage people assembling, what's with the fundraising activities?

I had never been to this location, as it is a beautiful building, very well organized and most importantly clean. BUT, THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE, I must say as it being my first time in this public liabary, my intention was to use the computer. I was accompanied by my fiancée. He had never been to a liabary in his life, as he is from Puerto Rico and there the schools are very poor , at least where he come from, with this being said I had to guide him with the one rule of being quite , not to have his phone on loud and how to use inside voice. I must say the receptionist was very rude and nasty about him being quite rather being kind as his phone was on loud when in played a vedeo, as he explained he was turning the volume down. (As the vedeo that played was Spanish). I was only there for 20 minutes. I was utilizing a computer next to an older gentleman at least in his 50's or so, very rude disgusting , abnoxois and the worst a RACIST!! I was assisting my fiancée with an job application , of course using inside voice , and of course we were communicating in Spanish. At the end when we got up to leave , very NASTY and rude , this man said finally peace and quite !! Ohh! I am a professional , I work in banking and see this almost everyday and have to stay shut ! This city "Kingston " is full of ignorant , hatred people that has no respect for other cultures!! The same receptionist that was so rude and nasty to my fiancée , I have told her , evaluate who you are and the people that are nasty ! She just stand there not even to defend. Disgust me !!! I can't believe even in "2018" people , have no dignity , and still have an racism mentality. One client of the liabary standed up to defend us. Thank you . Kind citizen. I nor my children will step into this public library again. I live in Edwardsville and ever I need assistance from a liabary I travel to Pittston. I am so disgusted!!
